Finally: Gmu 0.7.0 is here!

After eight beta releases it is finally here: The Gmu Music Player version 0.7.0. This Gmu release comes with full source (GPLv2 licensed) and is available for the GP2X (with Open2X firmware), the GP2X Wiz, the Dingoo A320 (with Dingux) and the Ben NanoNote.
Please note that due to the new theme engine old Gmu skins are no longer compatible with this release. Creating new themes is rather simple though. For those who are interested in creating Themes for Gmu, just have a look at the supplied default theme for now. If I find some time, I'll write a little theme creation tutorial later on.
Compared to the last beta release there are only a few minor changes and bug fixes. Most of these changes are relevant for porting Gmu to new devices and are less visible to the end user. Still, it is worth upgrading Gmu even if you have been using the last beta release, as some bugs have been fixed.

Awesome! I loved this player on my Dingoo (which died). I can’t wait to get it for my Wiz (in the mail). Any chance on combining this with Oldplay or anything? (To play MIDI and Emulator music files such as SPC files) I don’t know how to program yet (I am learning) but am wondering how hard it would be to all port this to this player. Perhaps I will try since it is open source, but it might be a bit advanced for me…

I’ve just receive my Nanonote but as I’m a complete noob to Linux I can’t do anything with it.
When trying to mount it to Windows = no driver
Under the root can do CD to any folder of the card.
So I can’t launch anything (LibSDl… )missing as you tell it but How can I replace it.
I’m currently at work and don’t have a computer with Linux.

Mortys: Probably the easiest way for you would be to use a micro sd card. You could copy all necessary files with a card reader on the card and then mount it on the NanoNote (mount /dev/mmcblk0p1 /card). That way you cann access the files on the sd card under the /card directory on your NN.

I thought taht your libSDl have all the need files… or do I need to something more than just cp ?

It looks like it isn’t loading any mp3-capable decoder in my (just flashed for 26/3 version) NanoNote: decloader, on shutting down unloads vorbis and wavpack. No mp3… in fact, when I go to a music folder with mp3 files, they doesn’t show in the browser. Maybe I have to install the mp3 packages separately (from OpenWRT build)? Thanks for your work!

When I try to install the gmu ipk using the command opkg install gmu* (I am in the same directory as the ipk) I get the error message:
//usr/lib/opkg/info/DirectFB.list: No such file or directory
Any ideas? I get this exact same message whatever ipk I try to install…

Other things: copied files onto microSD, not attached to desktop. If I cd to /usr/lib/opkg/info there isn’t the file in question.

sni: That message is just a warning, not an error, which means it should still have installed Gmu. Did you try running Gmu by executing “gmu” from the shell?
BTW, you might want to consider to upgrade your firmware to the latest version. That version includes Gmu by default, so you don’t even need to install it by yourself anymore. Also it comes with a nice menu application preinstalled.

BTW I have a number of tracks that are 30 mins + and I want GMU to remember the position they were at when I have stopped GMU. For example, if I was playing a track and it was stopped at 24:42, when I reload GMU, I want to restart from that position. Is this possible with GMU 0.7.0 ? I checked to see if the RememberSettings option was enabled, and it seems it was, so I guess that option isn’t what I’m looking for.

DL: This is not yet possible with Gmu 0.7.0, but it will most likely be possible in a future version of Gmu.

Actually no mp3 file is to be seen in the browser, only OGG/MOD or whatever. It may be a problem with the RootFS or something like that, because it was working before… What do you think ?

Tetsuoo: Gmu’s file browser shows those files for which Gmu has a working decoder plugin, only. You can check which plugins have been loaded by pressing Alt+A on the NanoNote. That opens Gmu’s program information screen, which includes a list of loaded decoders.
Gmu on the Ben NanoNote does not come with a MP3 decoder, because MP3 is still a patented codec in some countries. That means one would have to pay a license fee when selling devices that include such a decoder. This problem does not exist for patent-free codecs such as Ogg Vorbis (which has a better quality than MP3 anyway).

In fact i forgot to mention that i’m using a Dingoo actually. I’ve taken a look at the plugins, i have ‘mpeg123.so’, i guess the problem is somewhere else.

Felipe: There are still a few core features left, that I would like to implement before adding more decoder plugins. It should be possible to add an aac decoder though, given that faad supports fixed-point math. I do not use aac at all, so I don’t know much about faad.

gimmebottles: With the next release of Gmu, I will officially support the Zipit Z2, but I haven't decided yet which rootfs will be supported. Maybe I build one version for glibc and another for uclibc. That should make Gmu compatible with a wide range of rootfs. Of course the libs required by Gmu need to be included in the rootfs.
Btw, this is an old version of Gmu tht you have been commenting on. The current one is Gmu 0.7.1.
